As stated by Professor Burke, over a period of 30 years, international research has proven the safety of producing plants and food using biotechnology. As world population increases and our natural resources are strained, GM technology should be considered as one of the possible solutions to the increasing problems we will be facing. Altough not a silver bullet, biotechnology can be part of the solution to the current food crisis - i.e. the need to double food production by 2050. For productivity to keep up the pace with the growing world population, all safe and viable technologies should be considered as part of the solution to a global issue.
